Marleen Daniëls, Backstage Fashion fotografe
With her backstage photos of fashion shows,
photographer Marleen Daniëls (59) gives a fascinating picture
of how things really went.
Photographer Marleen Daniëls is one of the pioneers of backstage photography.
She walked behind the scenes for 30 years with models, stylists, make-up artists and designers
- until the arrival of social media.
Thanks to her photos you get to see all stages of the backstage.
The photos are only about ten years old, but they already show how the fashion world is changing rapidly:
the industry is now focusing primarily on digital applications and social media.
Fashion shows are streamed live, influencers pose in street-style photographers that have never been presented before.
Today everyone can follow the life and work of models and designers online.
Those were the miracle years when everything suddenly became possible and the fashion world was turned upside down: Dirk Van Saene made dresses from plastic, Martin Margiela's models wore doll dresses and ingeniously cut outfits, Ann Demeulemeester set up tough and at the same time fragile ladies.
Fashion became a statement and as a young photographer I had the opportunity to be part of the rise of Belgian designers. I photographed shows for Ann Demeulemeester, Dirk Bikkembergs and Dries Van Noten, later also for the younger generation, including Veronique Branquinho, Raf Simons and A.F. Vandevorst. "
